Man stabbed in Toronto financial district

A man was rushed to a hospital in Toronto after a stabbing in downtown’s financial district.

CNN partner CBC reported that Toronto police said officers arrested an individual in the incident on Saturday morning.

Toronto police spokesperson Meaghan Gray said she was not aware of a suspect name, but the man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, CBC reported.

It’s unclear whether the stabbing is related to a protest being held downtown Saturday. Worshippers were protesting the recent acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The stabbing occurred in the financial district, just a few blocks from a protest with some 4,000 people. Police in riot gear could be seen marching down sidewalks and scuffling with a small number of demonstrators, CBC reported.

The injured man was taken to hospital in an ambulance, and officers surrounded the vehicle and surrounded protesters as they left the area, the CBC reported.

A two-block area near Wellington Street and Bay Street in Toronto was closed to traffic, according to CNN affiliate CTV.
